Everything suddenly seems too much, and you don’t think you can cope. You feel lost in your reactions and big emotions.
A quick way to calm down is by doing breathing exercises. Stepping away from the thing that is overwhelming you will create separation between you and whatever is making you feel that way.
Maybe you are the opposite. Resistance is what happens when you believe all of your thoughts and resist all of your feelings. Your feelings only become stronger when you try to avoid them.
Do you feel it on your chest, your shoulders, your stomach? Once you’ve identified its place, lean into the emotion. Relax all your muscles, especially that stress in the specific area of the body you identified.
Because you don’t know how to handle your feelings, you’re having a hard time expressing yourself to other people. Not everyone understands your needs, and you often feel misunderstood by those around you.
It might be necessary to take a break during discussions so that you can calm down, collect your thoughts and return to the conversation with a clearer mindset. Taking a timeout can help prevent a communication breakdown.
